AMY:
The spring rolls were excellent -- crisp and with good onion flavor. The sauces
have a thin consistency, so if you get a curry or a sweet & sour, it's not
what you're used to from Indian and Chinese restaurants, respectively. The
sweet & sour pork was tasty. The red curry beef is also good. At lunchtime
they have a shorter menu, but you get your entree, rice, spring roll, soup
and iced tea for $5.95. The service is cordial and timely. They could use
some candles and slightly dimmer lighting in the evening.
JOHN:
Clean and intimate was my first impression, and stayed with me until I left.
There was a seemingly larger upstairs dinning area but we did not see it.
There was only one waiter for the small dinning area, and he did an excellent
job (I frequently find a problem with service in Asian restaurants, but not
in this case). I asked the waiter for a reccommendation and he quickly responded
with a suggestion that was not the most expensive item on the menu. The food
was very good. The spring rolls were very tasty, and not too much cabbage.
The other two dishes I tasted were very good, sweet & sour pork and some kind
of chicken with broccoli in a garlic sauce. Nothing incredible, but good quality
food all around. I would not travel a great distance to try it, but if you
are looking for a new restaurant in the Alexandria area you would have an
enjoyable time.
CHRISTIAN:
You've gotta love a place that brings you four big spring rolls per order
instead of two (even if they were the slightest bit greasier than other places).
At first I was a tad concerned about the somewhat thin appearance of my green
curry chicken's sauce but it turned out to be delicious. And they brought
me a second beer without me having to ask (do I have something written across
my face?) Finally, take note of the nicest "condiment" tray I've ever seen
at a Thai restaurant. Liked the place, liked the neighborhood. Too bad the
comic book/carnivorous plant shop in the next block was closed; I could have
used a short trip into the dark depths of the human soul (as if dinner with
Amy and John didn't satisfy my quota for the week!)
