Chums at Busara

2340 Wisconsin Ave, NW - Washington, DC - (202) 337-2340

Cuisine: Thai
Price: Moderate (We spent less than $20 apiece for food and beer)
Date Visited: May 12, 1999

PETER:
My chicken in peanut curry sauce was nice, though, despite the star, I would call it mild rather than "spicy." They didn't have Fisher beer, which was annoying.

EMILY:
Unfortunately, the Pad Thai was not as good-tasting as it was good-looking. The outdoor seating is a tad campy and reminded me of the Brady trip to Hawaii. A highpoint of my dining experience was my trip to the ladies' room. The primary colors and upbeat music inspired me to electric slide to my table.

JULIE:
This creature of habit was less than impressed by the chewy pad thai (my standard dish) -- not to mention the music in the bathroom (retro skipping record) and the outside decor (water theme park log ride). But I'd go back for the tragically-hip-people-watching (shimmer tanktops and suits).

CHRISTIAN:
Gotta love the back patio area. It brought back vivid memories of my recent visit to Thailand (oh wait, that was Peter). The food? My chicken ka pow was delicious (good quality meat!). Also, I like a place that brings you a lemon with your wheat beer without your having to ask. This place has it all. By the way, I've been to the Busara in Tysons Corner and it's just as good (minus the patio, though).

AIMEE:
I would have to agree with Peter that the chicken in curried peanut sauce did not rate a spiciness star, but luckily Bryce and I asked for spices on the side, and I was able to bring it to Louisiana spiciness standards. The sauce was very good, and I have since asked Richard to recreate it for me. As another visitor to the women's bathroom, I would agree that the music was exhilarating and the colors energizing.

Also in attendance were Bryce and Randy.
